OpenID support

March 12, 2007 – 11:19 am

Hi people,

We’ve added the possibility to access Hey!Watch via your OpenID account for more convenience. For those who don’t know what it is: it lets you access any sites supporting the OpenID protocol without boring registration. You have one identity for all these websites or blogs. Note that if you have an AIM account, or a Wordpress blog hosted on wordpress.com, you have an OpenID!

openid

If you already have an Hey!Watch account, you can merge it with OpenID.

The only issue is if you plan to use the API, you must choose a login and a password in your account page.

Paypal issue

March 8, 2007 – 12:01 pm

Hi People,

Paypal is experiencing issues to complete payments, so you may encounter some problem to buy credits. We had confirmation by phone that everything should be all right during the afternoon (Paris time).

Sorry for that, just be patient and retry.

Edit: Paypal is back, you can purchase your credits normally. That was very long…

Hey!Watch adopts Amazon S3 model for video encoding

March 7, 2007 – 8:34 am

Hi People,

Regarding the growing demand from both companies and people, it’s time for Hey!Watch to highlight its skills as a pure Video Encoding Web Service.

Consequently, our current business model is not adapted anymore. So, we have decided to adopt the same basis as Amazon S3 to best suit you:

  • Pay only for what you use
  • No start-up cost
  • A unique cheap price of $0,10 per encode (no more free)
  • 100% flexible: just credit your account with the number of encode you precisely need (min 5 credits)
  • Unlimited in time: you can use your credits without any deadline. No pressure and no waste of money.

We increased the unit price because we want to maintain a high and professional encoding level for All. But, paradoxically, you save money: you can adjust sharply to your needs and don’t waste any encoding sessions anymore. So, you optimize your investment and make your subscription more profitable.

Besides, the max video length limit has been extended to 45min to encode longer videos like TV shows or whatever you want. Still more, you can now extract audio from any video file and convert it in MP3 or Ogg.

For both Watcher and Business, you won’t loose anything. Actually, we will credit your account with remaining encode sessions. For example, if you subscribed for one month with 100 encode sessions and you used 40, your will get 60 credits back.

Personalization is what people want most. The old model was too restrictive because of the time limit and the unadapted number of encodes. We know that everyone has his own needs, and this main change will be better for all the different uses and behaviors we met. We want to maximize scaling effects and pass obviously those benefits to you. That’s why we choose this model and we trust the results.

Scheduled downtime

March 6, 2007 – 12:11 pm

Hi People,

Due to technical improvements, Hey!Watch won’t be available for 1 hour on Wednesday at 08:00 am (Paris time).

We are sure that you will enjoy the changes.

Send via Email, Soapbox, API improvements and Amazon S3

February 18, 2007 – 9:24 pm

Hi People,

Few changes today, we hope you’ll enjoy.

Upload video via email

Now, you can send and forward videos by email. You got an email from a friend, your family or even professional and you need to encode the attached video? Just forward it to us. You can put a title (optional) in the subject field. More, this is now more convenient to upload video via your mobile, it’s like MMS!

All you have to do is to choose an username in your account page and send the email to: your-choosen-name at upload.heywatch.com

Soapbox and Tetesaclaques.tv discover enabled

You surely know that Microsoft has just released its public Beta of Soapbox, its online video service. Hey!Watch already handles it! We also did the same for the more and more popular canadian show Tetesaclaques.tv.

API improvements

Developers can now override global options like FTP or ping after encode for each job they create through the API. See the updated doc on the wiki.

Automatic encode available for all uploading ways

When you upload from your disk, the video will be encoded automatically if you enable the automatic encode option. From now, whatever the way you transfer a video, it can be automatically converted.

Store with Amazon S3

Your encoded videos can now be directly sent to your S3 storage space. Set this option in your account page (Developer tab).

Encoded videos sent to your FTP, Torrent podcast available

February 12, 2007 – 7:31 am

Another stuff, the torrent podcast (pink icon) to share and seed your videos without moving a finger. At the moment, Azureus can handle RSS via this plugin, but we don’t know for other clients.

Share with Hey!Watch via Bittorrent

February 4, 2007 – 10:08 am

Do it right now with the new feat we’ve just added:

We seed the video until it’s deleted. Then be the seeder and spread the world!

See our FAQ if you have questions.

NB: Torrent is still experimental, do not hesitate to give us your feedback. To enjoy this new feat, you must use a bitTorent client supporting Webseeding protocol like Azureus or Bittornado clients. More details here.

What is hot today: “Business” offer has just been released with Full API, external upload, and higher encoding capacity.

From now, companies can really use Hey!Watch as a full integrated tool to develop their own project. Besides we propose a new way to upload (external upload): companies can transfer videos transparently from their site directly to Hey!Watch.
Go to your account page and click the new tab “Developer” to see all the new options. We also wrote an howto to integrate the external upload.
